The buying guide
Match wattage to your cooking, not the biggest number
These range from 1200W (Prestige IRIS ECO) to 2000W. Higher wattage boils and heats faster, useful if you cook for a family daily; a 1200-1600W model is fine and slightly gentler on your electricity load for smaller households. Don't pay extra for 2000W if you mostly reheat and cook for one or two people.
Surge protection genuinely matters in India
Voltage fluctuation is a real cause of appliance failure. Models with stated 4kV surge protection (Prestige PIC series, Philips) or an automatic voltage regulator (Prestige IRIS) are better protected against the power spikes common on Indian supply.
